Nachman's Seven Beggars
I wrapped up my illustrations for the translation of Rabbi Nachman’s Tale of the Seven Beggars here. The story is incredibly twisted and meta. It’s heavily perfumed in the alchemical and hermetic images bouncing around at the time, which I tried to conjure.1 These movements are often discussed in terms of their ideas, but not enough attention is given to the fact that they were awash in imagery. Images weren’t illustrations, but were used to think with, as the stuff of revelation. Anyway, I leave these images here, devoid of text or narrative.
